Personal growth and hope for the future can emerge from occurrences that are otherwise tragic or sorrowful. At Hospice of Queen Anne’s, we often hear about, and are sometimes privileged to participate in, individuals’ “stories of strength.” We would like to share with you the following story that exemplifies some of the ways that our hospice and bereavement programs have touched lives in Queen Anne’s County.

David and Christine
When you are a young wife and mother, the possibility of losing your husband and having to go through life alone generally doesn’t come to mind. You feel certain as a bride, when you take your vows of “till death do you part,” that you will grow old and grey together. John Byrne, at 88, is diabetic and has lost his sight; his wife, Billie, 86, has gradually succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease. And yet, they are blessed, strange as that may sound to those who don’t know them . . . or who don’t know their two children. Read More >
