Quality of lifePhysicians

Years ago, physicians visited patients at home, especially if the patient exhibited acute symptoms. Today, hospice staff can serve as the "eyes and ears" of physicians, either at home or in a facility, reporting signs and symptoms to the physician at regular intervals or as needed for updates.

Hospice of Queen Anne’s can best help patients and their families when we are consulted early in the end-of-life process. Patients to be admitted need to have an attending physician certify that the patient has a terminal diagnosis with a life expectancy of six months or less. Hospice serves persons of any age with any terminal illness. Among the illnesses our patients have had are: cancer, cardiac/renal/lung/Lou Gehrig’s disease, neurological illnesses, AIDS, cirrhosis, leukemia, dementia, and other end-stage disorders - including general debility.

If you are not certain if a patient is appropriate for hospice, please call us to discuss eligibility. A registered nurse can visit the family within four hours of a phone call. We do same-day admissions, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Physician Resources
Hospice of Queen Anne’s is pleased to be able to provide the following, quality resources dealing with end-of-life patient care:

Pharm Smart - Dr. Mary Lynn McPherson, Pharm D, BCPS, CPE, is an authority on pain management and end-of-life drugs. She has created these monthly Pharm Smart pages that are easy-to read and cover important drug related tips in a light-hearted manner.

Quality of Life Matters – Recommended as an educational resource by the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine, the periodical is dedicated solely to end-of-life care news and clinical findings. It is researched and written by professional medical journalists who specialize in covering palliative care issues.
