Hospice CenterBuilding a Home of Compassion for Queen Anne’s County

aany Queen Anne’s County residents live alone with no caregiver or have a primary caregiver with a limited capacity to assist in their care. Most patients would prefer to live the remaining days of their lives in their own home, surrounded by their loved ones. Unfortunately this is not always possible for the following reasons:

  • The primary caregiver is ill or frail and unable to care for the patient
  • Family members work during the day and the patient would be left unattended
  • The patient lives alone and does not have a primary caregiver
  • The patient prefers to have the security of a clinically supportive environment
  • The family has a crisis and is no longer able to care for the patient

To meet these projected needs, Hospice of Queen Anne’s is building an 11,235 square feet Hospice Center, due to be complete early 2008. As you travel on Route 213 in Centreville, you may have noticed the rapidly advancing construction for the Center on the northwest corner of the Centreville Business Park.

The new Center will allow Hospice of Queen Anne’s to offer expanded services, including six residence beds, an administrative wing for clinical and office staff, and a Center for Bereavement and Healing.  The frame and brick Hospice Center is being specially constructed to fit in with its agricultural setting.  The residence will consist of six bedrooms with adjoining private baths, each room uniquely decorated in a home-like manner.  The rooms will each have walk-out capabilities to a small private patio area where patients and families can enjoy companionship in an open air setting.

The common areas will include a home-like living room, dining area, and fully outfitted kitchen for meal preparation.  It will be much like a house with six families living in it.  Patients and families will be able to feel comfortable, as if they are in a home rather than an institution.  Families will be encouraged to participate in the care of their loved one whenever and however their abilities, and desire, enable.  Unlimited 24-hour visiting hours will make it accessible to guests, including children and pets.
