Grief is one of the most common sets of emotions and reactions, yet we often hesitate to think or talk about it. The emotions we experience during grief include sadness, loneliness, helplessness, anger, guilt and fear. These are all normal and healthy, although often very intense. People often need reassurance that their feelings and reactions are normal.

The passage of time help to ease the pain, but time alone is not enough. Learning about grief, expressing the pain, taking care of ourselves, accepting support from others, and just remembering the person who died help us to move through grief and return to normal living. While grief work is a painful process, it can also be a growth period toward a richer life.

It is important that we allow ourselves and others to grieve, and to remember that we each grieve differently.
